Heart to heart with Falastini artist and dear friend, Farah Nasrawi

Salaam,

In a few days, it will be one year to the genocide against Falastinis by the United States and “Israel”. Murderous regimes that have now turned their fangs to the Lebanese and were already attacking Yemen and Syria on and off these past months.

As someone living in the SWANA region, the escalation of violence in the past days from Gaza to now Lebanon has been scary, heartbreaking, infuriating and painful to watch.

I know being with people who care and are affected is one of the antidotes to the worry and despair. But nothing soothes more than leaning into the words and support of Allah swt. Talking to people and having one’s spirit heard, comforted, and rejuvenated is also his mercy.

I want to share then this intimate and unhurried conversation I had with Farah.

Farah and I met at a development program for artists during covid but we have become friends because of Falastin. May our friendship see the days of a liberated Falastin insha’Allah.

Born and raised in Dubai, Farah Nasrawi is a UX designer and visual arts workshop and events facilitator with a background in interior design. In her art practice, Farah explores her perpetual state of strife with time. From being a third-generation

Palestinian in the diaspora, she is torn between resisting nostalgia and compulsively documenting memories, developing an affinity to the lifetime of objects, living things, and spaces in which she had lived in.
